VCam UX
The VCam app UI has been updated to a more camera-focused paradigm that is easier to interact with from a tablet or phone. Built on top of a customizable system, it opens the possibilities to support other workflows in the future like light placement, set dressing, and 2D scouting.
VCam Performance
The VCam system has been updated to use VP9 streaming with WebRTC for lower latency and higher fidelity. This will improve both the transmission of images as well as the ARKit tracking data. In addition, it will simplify the configuration toward a more plug-and-play experience
VCam Operator Workflows
The VCam updates allow for operator improvements on both the Unreal Engine UX and the integration of hardware controls. Operators tasked with facilitating complex shots should be able to:
Control Near Clipping Plane per CineCameraActor
Perform time-scaled recording through Take Recorder with full-speed playback
For users who would prefer a more out-of-the-box and tactile experience, we're expanding the default Virtual Camera tools and HUDs to allow for the full remapping of its functionality. Whether it be encoded dollies, wheels boxes, or Xbox controllers, users will be fully able to customize the VCam experience to the hardware configuration that works best for them.
