Revit’s Energy Analytical Model, comprising of Analytical Spaces and Surfaces is a fundamental requirement for accurate HVAC Loads/Sizing and Building Energy Analysis. Over the years a variety of methods and settings have been introduced into Revit to automatically generate these from given Architectural elements; from Conceptual Massing to Building Elements, Rooms and Spaces, working with or without linked files. Each of these methods and their associated settings support different ways of working, and yield different results in terms of geometric accuracy and precision. While these capabilities are very powerful users often get bogged down in knowing what mode, setting or other way of working is right for their goals. In order to address this, we will be working to provide clearer guidance on workflow options and settings that will help more common and targeted workflows/deliverables, like working at conceptual stages vs detailed design and documentation, with settings and workflows more tuned to support the requirements of each.

Pressure drop data on duct and pipe fittings provide the ability to compute the pressure drop of a network, providing input into the selection process for fans and pumps. Presently, there are a variety of limitations in the flexibility of tailoring this data to needs that may vary by geo or reference standard, and challenges in maintaining this information in a model. By providing more flexibility in this regard, we intend to better support a variety of workflows, as well as enable data to be more easily user defined.

System Types for Duct and Pipe in Revit define characteristics such as the fluid used in the network (e.g., water, glycol) and the abbreviation associated with the components (e.g., CHW). Service definitions for MEP Fabrication Ductwork/Pipework serve similar purpose. Further, it is common to color code duct and pipe networks based on these concepts. When using a combination of Revit family elements (associated with System Types) and ITMs (associated with Services), it can become particularly challenging to setup views where the display is consistent. To address this, we intend to work towards harmonization of these concepts.

Provide APIs for customization of Revit Ribbon UI, including adding, removing, and moving ribbon tabs, buttons and panels for improved flexibility and API support for custom ribbon experiences and improved integration of 3rd party applications. This would include improved support for theming and giving users control over what an addon can do in terms of its UI.
