VP Stage Operator UX & Workflows

The stage operator in any VP workflow such as in-camera VFX has a high-stress position. Many people make requests of them that need to be completed in the shortest time possible. In a world where budgets are measured in thousands of dollars per minute, there is little room for error and waiting. We've introduced a dedicated panel to help with common tasks:

2D Light Card Placement and Management UI

Light cards are more useful than their name would indicate. They are used as luminous shapes, semi-transparent "nets", and fully opaque "flags". When deployed on larger LED stages, they can be used in large quantities, making their creation and management time-consuming. We've created a dedicated panel for the creation, placement, and management of all light cards that uses a simple click-and-drag UX over the top of a 2D render of the LED wall surfaces. Moving light cards to a specific location is easy and intuitive. Selection of light cards is accomplished through a dedicated Outliner or by clicking on the one you want.

Viewport and Region-Based Color Correction UI

Color corrections are a critical part of in-camera VFX workflows, helping to blend between the physical and digital, and enabling creative changes. Whereas this was previously accomplished in a nested set of small UIs, Unreal Engine 5.1 adds a dedicated panel for a larger, more intuitive color correction experience. This allows for both finer control and faster access, answering the need for both accuracy and efficiency when on set.
